Appearances & Origins

Aquamarine has been long known as the stone of Mermaids and in Latin Aqua Marinus means ‘Water of the Sea’. Old legends tell of how it changes colour to reveal true or false and it is heralded for its protection of all sea creatures including sailors who travel above the water’s surface. It is a stone of Intellect and is good to have nearby as a reminder to stay focused when learning or acquiring new knowledge. Aquamarine is a rare and therefore expensive crystal and normally comes in small sizes.

Aquamarine identifies with symmetry and balance. It has a hexagonal crystalline structure meaning that atomically its sides are all equal in length. The energy and colour give us a feeling of flow but also structure. It is therefore referred to as a good stone for mediation, clarity and revelation. Many prophets, shamans, healers and mystics have had close affinities with Aquamarine. Aquamarine is a blue variety of Beryl, the deeper and clearer the stone, the higher the quality and purity.

Chakras & Placement

Aquamarine is an excellent stone to wear as jewellery, in polished form can be popped in a pocket or pouch to travel with you or in raw form displayed in the home. It is great to put in any spaces that may have people and different energies moving through it frequently. This could on your person or perhaps a workspace or even a study space where you may interact with people via email or social media. The aqua blue colour correlates with the throat chakra and therefore is a communication stone.

HEART CHAKRA (Secondary)

Aquamarine can also work with the Heart Chakra by helping one to realise their innermost truth. Soothing and clarifying it has a gentle energy and is a fantastic stone for learning and used by creatives and intellects. Using Aquamarine over the heart chakra during meditation using mantras that focus on releasing bad pattern of behaviour that no longer serve us it a really beneficial ritual for letting go. Overcome judgment or others, encourage tolerance and soothe fear and worry. This stone will bring your third eye, throat and heart chakras into energetic poise and foster a renewed sense of courage and creative expression.
