Appearances & Origins

In Latin, Aqua Marinus means ‘Water of the Sea’, and the crystal has long been known as the stone of Mermaids. Old legends tell of how it changes colour to reveal what is 'true' or 'false'. It is also heralded as a protection talisman for all sea creatures including sailors who travel above the water’s surface.

Throughout history, prophets, shamans, healers and mystics have a close affinity with Aquamarine. This is probably because it elicits a feeling of flow, so is therefore perfect for mediation, clarity and revelation.

Aquamarine is a blue variety of Beryl. The deeper and clearer the stone, the higher the quality and purity. It identifies with symmetry and balance and has a hexagonal crystalline structure meaning that atomically its sides are all equal in length.

Aquamarine is a rare and therefore expensive and normally comes in small sizes.

Chakras & Placement

Aquamarine is an excellent stone to wear as jewellery or to keep in your pocket or a pouch.

It is also great to keep in a space that has many different people and energies moving through it, such as a workspace or somewhere outside the home where you study.

The aqua blue colour correlates with the throat chakra and is therefore a great stone to assist with communication.

Known as a stone of the intellect, it is good to have nearby as a reminder to stay focused when learning or acquiring new knowledge. It also supports your creativity, so is wonderful for artists and other creatives, or if you are working on unlocking your creative flow.

Aquamarine can also work with the Heart Chakra by helping to realise your innermost truth. It has a soothing, clarifying and gentle energy.

Using Aquamarine over your heart chakra during meditation, especially coupled with a mantra, can help you release unhealthy patterns of behavior. It is great in rituals for letting go.
